These are the Italian excellences working on testing and on coronavirus vaccine
Some Italian companies are participating to the great global “contest” to contain and finally conquer coronavirus. And they are achieving some results indeed.
Palmisano explains how several centres of competence are playing a role against the virus, both in the field of diagnostic and vaccines.
Pertaining to vaccines, three Italian companies are involved. They are all from Lazio, where a real pole of excellence has been created.
More of 250 scientists work at IRBM, located in Pomezia, now collaborating with the Jenner Institute of Oxford University. IRBM has experience in vaccines development: it already produced the vaccine for Ebola, and it has been working on adenovirus during the last years.
IRBM has started manufacturing a first batch of the coronavirus vaccine: clinical trial may start before this summer.
Palmisano points out: “Italy is full of excellent scientists, and we shouldn’t need a pandemic to remind it”
