Covid-19 vaccine. Pomezia (Rome), clinical trials: 550 volunteers in London

Pomezia, the vaccine is ready. Now the testing.

IRBM is going to transfer the first batch to the UK: it will be tested on 550 volunteer subjects.

Piero Di Lorenzo: “Given the in vitro results, we have assumed to go straight to phase 3 of clinical trial”

We hear about the discovery of some new Covid-19 vaccine from all around the world, but times vary between eight months and two years. IRBM of Pomezia (Rome) has just indicated a shorter time, announcing that the first batch of the vaccine is going to be transferred to the UK, where clinical trials will start on 550 volunteer subjects. This vaccine is the outcome of a partnership between IRBM and the Jenner Institute of Oxford University. Piero Di Lorenzo, President and CEO of IRBM, explains: “Given the in vitro results, we have assumed to go straight to phase 3 of clinical trial (skipping phase 1 with just 15 people and phase 2 with less than 150). The Jenner Institute is confident that the first results will come by September. […] If all goes well, we’ll go beyond trade agreements and the Institution will be the new stakeholders. […] The Minister of Research Gaetano Manfredi and the Council Presidency have encouraged our work”.
