In 2011 the CNCCS Consortium organized for the first time the “BioEconomy Rome” award to promote and further awareness on the importance of research in the field of Rare, Neglected and Poverty-Related diseases.
In the first edition, a Prize Committee of prestigious international scientists awarded prizes to two scientists for the most innovative intuition published in the sector of molecular biology in 2010: Ruggero De Maria, Scientific Director of the Istituto Nazionale Tumori Regina Elena, and Peter Vogt, Senior Vice President from the Scripps Institute of San Diego – two world class scientists.
This event brought together some of the world’s most eminent scientists in this sector, representatives from Italian and international public institutions, and important entrepreneurs from the pharmaceutical industry to create a forum for discussion on translational medicine and how these actors can collaborate and support each other in developing the various socio-economic sectors.
BioEconomy 2012 follows on from the success of the first event in collaboration with the Minister for Health Renato Balduzzi, the Minister for Research and Education Francesco Profumo, the President of the Lazio Region Renata Polverini, the European Commissioners for Health, John Dalli and for Industry and Development, Antonio Tajani, the President, Pontificio Consiglio della Pastorale per gli Operatori Sanitari, Monsignor Zygmut Zimowski, the Presidents of the CNR Luigi Nicolais and of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità Enrico Garaci, the University of Cambridge, the CHDI Foundation and the Medicine For Malaria Venture.
A Prize Committee formed of eminent scientists will award a prize of$15,000 to 10 young researchers working in Italy who have distinguished themselves by innovational research with a potential social/economic impact in the field of Biomedical Sciences.
The Awards Ceremony will be held in Rome, in the Library of the Senate of the Republic on November 20, 2012, following a day of study, scientific discussion and debate organized for November 19 in the Auditorium of IRBM Science Park.
